How are you feeling with the "light squat/speed squat day" and the heavy day instead of two heavy days?? Looks like it is working. How does it feel?

If you ask me on my 3rd set of 10 when I'm sucking wind so bad I want to puke, I hate it, because it shows me how fat and out of shape I am right now. When we did 5/3/1 18 months ago I could do reps like this with heavier weight no problem but I couldn't hit the real working set weights I'm hitting or even close.

I miss squatting 2 days a week, but I would have to ease back into it. I failed to do that this past 9 months and was making gains hit or miss. I would have to start over and build both the raw and the equipped much slower and at the same time in order to do it again.

Also, these are not speed squats by any means. It is well below 60% for reps of 10, stopping between reps and using good form every rep. This makes them much tougher than simply repping out as you've experienced.

That's some heavy squatting Patrick, nice! Do you do the abs and side bends just to kill time?

Thanks Joe. The Abs I do because they truly help me out on the squat and deadlift. I do them as heavy as I am able to do and the stability they give me really pays off. Unfortunately, they also make me sore for a couple days at a time.

I love training nights like this. All my training partners hit PRs. Mike Bitson missed on his first top set, rested and came back strong to hit it on second attempt. Craig Schwarz hit a big 710 equipped at 240.

No Belt Squats 515x2, 545x2, 575x2 (PR without belt), 575x2, 515x2
Good Mornings 355x6 x 3 sets
Calf Raises 230x10, 250x10, 270x10

And.........wait for it.........
Treadmill 10 minutes - Had a lower back pump after 3 minutes but Lance has told me it will help my horrible recovery. The next day after a training session I always feel like a truck ran over me no matter the protocol or weight. I want to lose some of my huge belly and recover better.

Suspended Good Mornings - 1RM: 387 lbs
225 lbs x 6 reps x 2 sets @ 8 RPE - 58% of 1RM
275 lbs x 6 reps x 2 sets @ 8 RPE - 71% of 1RM

Nautilus Abs 200x12x 4 sets

Treadmill - 12 minutes

I have lowered my estimated maxes significantly and I'm also trying to drop weight. I was my heaviest I've ever been at this last meet and I can't carry that weight around anymore. For now, I'm dropping weight and don't have a goal in mind but I'd like to be at least healthy 270. At 43 and 3 children and lots of responsibility, I simply must get healthier.

Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Treadmill 25 minutes - No, seriously. I have witnesses.
